Söderskär is rugged, ascetic and breathtakingly beautiful
Söderskär Lighthouse is a must see place for people who love islands, sea, simplicity and silence. The Söderskär Lighthouse is situated at the outer archipelago of Porvoo, 25 kilometers from Helsinki city center. Since there is no overnight possibilities or cafeteria on the island (there used to be cafeteria on the boat, you have to check this), Söderskär is perfect for people who are interested in history and enjoying few moments in the middle of the nature preserve. And what could be better than having a picninc on the rocks? Sun, cold drinks, cherries, rasberries, peas and cookies, feet in the water and the unforgettable view – well, a very nice way to spend few hours in the middle of the sea, if you ask me. This island is definately on my top 10 places I recommend visiting if someone is traveling to Helsinki during summer days.

Since this 150 year old Lighthouse is located in the middle of nature preserve, landing on the island on your own is prohibited, only guided tours make an exception. Klick here for more information and history on the Söderskär Lighthouse.
Ps. The Lighthouse is privately owned and they have received an ekocompass; award for organisations that take the environment strongly into consideration in their activities. <3
